STC joins Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council; Zoubaidi made vice-president
When President Hadi transferred his powers to a new eight-member Presidential Leadership Council on 7 April 2022, the STC was formally incorporated into Yemen's governing body and its leader Aidarus al-Zoubaidi was named one of its vice-presidents — moving the separatist movement from armed challenger to a partner inside the internationally recognized government.

STC declares self-administration over southern Yemen
Citing a stall in implementing the November 2019 Riyadh Agreement, the STC declared self-administration (self-rule) over Aden and southern governorates in April 2020 and imposed a state of emergency. It rescinded the declaration in July 2020 after Saudi Arabia brokered an "acceleration mechanism," and STC members joined a new cabinet in December 2020.

STC forces seize government headquarters in Aden
Beginning 28 January 2018, armed forces loyal to the STC seized the Yemeni government's headquarters and most of Aden in fighting against forces of the internationally recognized Hadi government — an effective coup in the interim capital that exposed the rift inside the anti-Houthi, Saudi/UAE-led coalition.

Southern Transitional Council founded under Aidarus al-Zoubaidi
On 11 May 2017 Aidarus al-Zoubaidi — days after President Hadi dismissed him as governor of Aden — announced the formation of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), a UAE-backed body seeking self-rule or independence for formerly South Yemen. Zoubaidi became its president and Hani Bin Breik vice-president.
