Nour party backs the military ouster of President Morsi
On 3 July 2013, when General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced the army was removing Egypt's elected Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and suspending the constitution, Nour chairman Younis Makhyoun sat among Sisi's mostly liberal backers — Nour being the only Islamist party to endorse the takeover. It went on to join the committee that rewrote the Brotherhood-era constitution and to support Sisi's presidential bid, a striking case of a Salafi party siding against fellow Islamists.

Nour-led Islamist Bloc finishes second in Egypt's 2011–12 election
In the People's Assembly election staggered from November 2011 to January 2012 — Egypt's first after Mubarak's fall — the Salafi Nour party led the "Islamist Bloc" to second place with roughly a quarter of the seats (about 120 of 498), behind the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party. It was the strongest electoral showing by a Salafi force in the Arab world and made Nour the principal rival to the Brotherhood within the Islamist camp.
