Judicial Reform Package
חבילת הרפורמות המשפטיות
Summary
Sweeping legislative package introduced by Justice Minister Yariv Levin to curtail Supreme Court powers — eliminating "reasonableness" review of executive decisions, giving the Knesset power to override Court rulings with a simple majority, and politicizing the Judicial Appointments Committee.
Impact
Triggered the largest sustained protest movement in Israeli history (March 2023 onwards) and a national strike. First component (reasonableness amendment) passed July 2023 and was struck down by the Supreme Court in January 2024. Remaining components stalled by the October 7 attack and subsequent war.
