Dbeibah refuses to cede power after the cancelled 2021 election

When the 24 December 2021 election was indefinitely postponed, Dbeibah refused to hand over to Fathi Bashagha, whom the eastern-based parliament named prime minister in early 2022, insisting he would only cede power to an elected government. His refusal entrenched Libya's rival-government split; the UN continued to recognize him, and as of 2026 no national vote had been held.
