Mansour Abbas makes Ra'am the first Arab party in an Israeli government

On 13 June 2021 Mansour Abbas led the Islamist Ra'am (United Arab List) into the Bennett–Lapid coalition — the first time an independent Arab party joined an Israeli governing coalition. Breaking with the Arab sector's tradition of non-participation, Abbas pursued an explicit strategy of "influence through participation," extracting budget commitments and recognition for Negev Bedouin communities in exchange for his bloc's pivotal votes.
