JCP takes second place in Libya's 2012 GNC election

In Libya's first free national election on 7 July 2012, the Justice and Construction Party won 17 of the 80 party-list seats (with more party-aligned independents) for around 34 seats in the General National Congress — second to Mahmoud Jibril's liberal National Forces Alliance, but the strongest organized party and a pivotal bloc in the post-revolution GNC.
