The Alignment dissolves into the Labor Party
On 7 October 1991 the Alignment formally dissolved, with its factions fully absorbed into the Israeli Labor Party ahead of the 1992 election that returned Yitzhak Rabin to power — ending the Ma'arach label that had defined the Israeli centre-left for over two decades.

The Alignment loses power in the 1977 "upheaval"
In the 17 May 1977 election the Alignment collapsed to 32 seats (24.6%) behind Begin's Likud (43), ending 29 years of Labor-Zionist control of government — the "Mahapach." It was the first time Israel's founding ruling bloc was turned out of power, a watershed that reshaped the country's politics.

The Alignment forms as Israel's dominant Labor bloc
Building on the 1965 Mapai–Ahdut HaAvoda alignment, the Israeli Labor Party and Mapam formed the Alignment (Ma'arach) in 1969 as a unified electoral bloc. From 1965 to 1977 the Alignment was the ruling force, holding the premiership and the foreign, finance, defense and education ministries — the institutional core of Labor-Zionist dominance.
