Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty (post-Camp David)
معاهدة السلام المصرية الإسرائيلية
Summary
Peace treaty signed in Washington on 1979-03-26 following the 1978 Camp David Accords negotiated by Carter, Begin, and Sadat. Israel withdrew from Sinai (completed 1982); Egypt formally recognized Israel; first Arab-Israeli peace treaty.
Impact
Permanently changed the regional military balance — removed Egypt from the anti-Israel military coalition. Cost Sadat his life (assassinated 1981) but produced the longest-running Arab-Israeli peace. The Egyptian state's commitment to the treaty has survived three regime transitions (Mubarak, Morsi, Sisi).
