Sawiris launches the liberal Free Egyptians Party

On 3 April 2011, after the fall of Mubarak, billionaire Naguib Sawiris and a group of intellectuals founded the Free Egyptians Party on an explicitly liberal, democratic and secular platform — conceived as a counterweight to the rising Islamist parties in post-revolution Egypt.
