Hassan II launches the Green March into Western Sahara

On 6 November 1975 King Hassan II mobilized some 350,000 unarmed Moroccans to march south into the Spanish Sahara, pressuring a collapsing Franco-era Spain to cede the territory to Morocco. The Green March annexed Western Sahara, rallied Moroccans behind the throne, and began the still-unresolved conflict with the Polisario Front and the Sahrawi independence claim.
