Louisa Hanoune founds Algeria's Trotskyist Workers' Party

After Algeria's 1989 turn to pluralism, Louisa Hanoune — jailed in the 1980s as a member of the then-illegal Trotskyist Socialist Workers Organization — founded the Workers' Party (PT) in 1990. Linked to the French Trotskyist current, it became a durable anti-liberal, anti-imperialist voice in parliament under her long leadership.
