Abdullah II quells the Prince Hamzah "sedition" affair

On 3 April 2021 Jordanian authorities placed former crown prince Hamzah under house arrest and detained around twenty people — including ex-royal-court chief Bassem Awadallah — over an alleged plot to destabilize the kingdom. Hamzah publicly accused the leadership of corruption before signing a loyalty pledge; on 7 April King Abdullah II declared the "sedition" quashed. The rare public rupture in the ruling family exposed elite tensions over governance and corruption.
