Crown Prince Salman becomes prime minister of Bahrain

On 11 November 2020 Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa was appointed prime minister of Bahrain on the death of his great-uncle Khalifa bin Salman, who had held the post since independence in 1971. Combining the crown-prince and premier roles, the comparatively reform-minded Salman concentrated executive authority and economic policy under the direct line of succession.
