Saied's 2022 constitution entrenches a hyper-presidential system

On the first anniversary of the coup, 25 July 2022, Saied held a referendum on a new constitution he had largely authored, concentrating power in the presidency and gutting the checks of the 2014 charter. It passed with 94.6% of valid ballots but only 30.5% turnout amid an opposition boycott, formalizing the end of Tunisia's parliamentary democracy and the personalization of power.
