RND chief and ex-PM Ahmed Ouyahia jailed for corruption

Ahmed Ouyahia — RND secretary-general and four-time prime minister (1995–98, 2004–06, 2008–12, 2017–19) — was arrested in June 2019 amid the Hirak-era anti-graft purge and on 10 December 2019 sentenced to 15 years in prison. The case centred on illicit auto-industry favours and covert financing of Bouteflika's aborted 2019 fifth-term bid; Ouyahia admitted selling gold bars received from Gulf donors. Appeals upheld the term in 2021.
