Sadat breaks the taboo with his visit to Jerusalem

On 19 November 1977 President Anwar Sadat became the first Arab leader to visit Israel, addressing the Knesset in Jerusalem and offering peace. The astonishing reversal — from the architect of the 1973 war to peacemaker — led to the 1978 Camp David Accords and the 1979 Egypt–Israel peace treaty, the first Arab recognition of Israel, for which Egypt was expelled from the Arab League. A textbook case of behavior overturning decades of declared Arab consensus.
