Qatar's PM brokers the January 2025 Gaza ceasefire

On 15 January 2025 Qatari PM and foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman announced a Gaza ceasefire and hostage-prisoner exchange — mediated jointly by Qatar, Egypt and the United States — that took effect on 19 January. Qatar's hosting of Hamas's political leadership in Doha was central to the talks, cementing the small state's role as an indispensable go-between in the Israel–Hamas war.
