Tunisia People's Movement leader Mohamed Brahmi assassinated
On 25 July 2013 People's Movement founder Mohamed Brahmi was shot dead outside his Tunis home — the second assassination of a leftist opposition figure in 2013 (after Chokri Belaid), with the same weapon. His killing triggered mass protests and the Bardo sit-in that paralyzed the constituent assembly and ultimately forced the Ennahda-led government to hand power to a technocratic cabinet, salvaging the democratic transition.
