Party drops "Communist" to become the Palestinian People's Party

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the party renamed itself the Palestinian People's Party in 1991, arguing that the class struggle should be deferred while Palestinians waged a cross-class national-liberation struggle. It backed the Oslo process and a negotiated two-state outcome, and its cadres took posts in the Palestinian Authority.
