Saudi Arabia King Salman accedes to the Saudi throne
Salman bin Abdulaziz became King of Saudi Arabia on 23 January 2015 on the death of his half-brother King Abdullah. His reign quickly broke with the gerontocratic, consensus-based succession of the past: in 2017 he elevated his son Mohammed bin Salman to crown prince, concentrating power in a single branch of the family.
