Palestinian Communist Party founded (later the People's Party)

Founded in 1982 as the Palestinian Communist Party, the movement joined the PLO in 1987 and was one of the four components of the Unified National Leadership that steered the First Intifada, mobilizing grassroots support. Under Bashir Barghouti it was an early advocate within the PLO of a two-state solution on the 1967 lines.
