Saleh cedes power after 33 years under the GCC transition

Forced from office by the 2011 uprising and the GCC-brokered deal, Ali Abdullah Saleh formally handed the presidency to his deputy Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi on 27 February 2012, ending 33 years of personal rule. Saleh and his GPC retained substantial influence, and he soon allied with the Houthis against the very government that replaced him.
