Sudani approved as Iraqi PM, ending the year-long crisis

On 27 October 2022 Iraq's Council of Representatives approved a government headed by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, ending the year-long deadlock that followed the 2021 election and the Sadrist walkout. Nominated by the pro-Iran Coordination Framework and backed by the cross-sectarian State Management Alliance (with the Sunni Sovereignty bloc and the Kurdish KDP/PUK), Sudani took office pledging services, anti-corruption and economic reform.
