On 15 September 2020, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed the US-brokered Abraham Accords at a White House ceremony hosted by President Donald Trump, alongside UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The UAE and Bahrain became the first Arab states to establish full diplomatic relations with Israel since Jordan in 1994, breaking with the long-standing Arab consensus — embodied in the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative — that normalization should follow the creation of a Palestinian state. Morocco (announced 10 December 2020) and Sudan (announced 23 October 2020) joined the framework later the same year.
