On 13 June 2025, Israel launched a large-scale air campaign ("Operation Rising Lion") against Iran, striking nuclear facilities including Natanz, ballistic-missile infrastructure, and senior military commanders; Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation was aimed at rolling back Iran's nuclear-weapons program, which he called a threat to Israel's survival. Iran retaliated with successive waves of ballistic missiles and drones against Israeli territory. On 21-22 June the United States struck three Iranian nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan — using B-2 bombers with bunker-buster bombs and submarine-launched cruise missiles ("Operation Midnight Hammer"), after which Iran fired missiles at the US Al Udeid air base in Qatar on 23 June. A ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump took effect on 24 June, ending roughly 12 days of direct war. How to cite this document
