Speaker: Kais Saied, on inauguration as President of the Tunisian Republic at the Assembly of People's Representatives, Tunis. Date: 23 October 2019. The constitutional oath of office, taken verbatim:

"I swear by Almighty God to safeguard the independence of the homeland and the integrity of its territory, to respect the Constitution of the country and its legislation, to watch over its interests and to owe it allegiance."

[Verbatim segments from the subsequent inaugural address, as quoted by multiple durable hosts: Xinhua (23 Oct 2019); Human Rights Watch analysis (25 Oct 2019); Middle East Monitor (15 Oct 2019); CGTN (24 Oct 2019).]

On terrorism, the existential commitment:
"One bullet from a terrorist will be met with countless bullets."

On international obligations and the post-revolutionary constitutional order:
"[I will] honor Tunisia's obligations under international law."

On Palestine — the inaugural's most-cited substantive position, reportedly his first foreign-policy line as president:
"We stand for just causes, and Palestine in the first place. It is not a position against Jews, we protected them and are ready to do it again, but it's a position against racism and colonization."

[On dignity and citizenship, per the Research Media key-notes summary of the inaugural and the contemporaneous HRW reporting:] The dignity of the homeland is the dignity of its citizens; the people's will is supreme; the President is bound to defend it.
