Hassan Nasrallah, who had led Hezbollah since 1992, was killed on 27 September 2024 in an Israeli airstrike on the group's headquarters in the Dahiyeh area south of Beirut while leadership were meeting there. Hezbollah confirmed his death on 28 September 2024, saying he had 'joined his fellow martyrs.' A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander, Abbas Nilforushan, was also killed in the same strike. Israeli officials described it as among the most significant targeted strikes in the state's history. How to cite this document
