Content
On 7 October 2023, Hamas led a surprise attack from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel — which it named 'Operation Al-Aqsa Flood' — together with other Palestinian armed groups. About 1,200 people were killed in Israel, the deadliest single day in the country's history, and roughly 250 people were taken hostage into Gaza. The assault triggered the Gaza war, Israel's ensuing large-scale military campaign in the Gaza Strip, and reset the entire regional cascade that followed. How to cite this document
