Summary

Egyptian cabinet decree formally designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, freezing assets and outlawing membership. Followed the August 2013 Rabaa massacre and the imprisonment of senior Brotherhood leadership.

Impact

Ended the Brotherhood's legal existence in Egypt after eight decades. Freedom and Justice Party (its political wing) was subsequently dissolved (August 2014). Designation has not been reversed.
