comedia burocrática al estilo Berlanga·moderno

El sello

Berlanga-style bureaucratic comedy

Characters

  • Funcionario— the clerk, indeterminate age, glasses, never looks up
  • Ciudadano— the petitioner, 40s, third visit this week

Ventanilla.

Film note

Luis García Berlanga (1921-2010) made Spanish bureaucracy into an art form. Long ensemble shots, overlapping dialogue, characters who all want the same thing and none of whom gets it. The horror is the politeness. The comedy is the persistence. The trick is that the absurdity is documentary, not invented.

Try reading at least one role aloud.
