# Tayyar — License & Reuse

The **Tayyar** MENA political-position dataset and its documentation are
© Tarek Gara. They are made available for **non-commercial research and
journalism** under the terms below. The canonical, web-rendered version of
these terms lives at <https://tarekgara.com/tayyar/license>.

## 1. The dataset
The positions, scores, ratings, confidence/agreement figures, axis
definitions, entity records, status taxonomies, events, bills, quotes, and
comparison briefs are licensed under
**Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–ShareAlike 4.0 International
(CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)**.

You may share and adapt the dataset for **non-commercial** purposes provided
you:
- **attribute** it to "Tayyar — tarekgara.com/tayyar";
- **link to the exact version** you used (a release tag or commit hash — see
  §6 below), because the dataset evolves;
- **license any derivative alike** (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

Commercial use requires prior written permission.

## 2. Source texts (excerpts, quotes, social-media posts)
Tayyar claims **no ownership** of the underlying source material. Document
excerpts, quotes, and social-media captures are reproduced under
**fair use / the right of quotation** for research, reporting, and criticism,
with attribution to the original author and source. All rights in the source
texts remain with their original rights-holders.

Social-media posts are stored as **dated archival captures** (the original may
be deleted by its author). A removal request submitted via
<https://tarekgara.com/contact> will be honored promptly.

## 3. Code
This release contains data only. Scripts that reproduce the paper figures
from these files are available from the author on request.

## 4. No warranty
Tayyar is a **pilot research instrument**, provided "as is," with documented
limitations (see /tayyar/methodology and /tayyar/limitations). Its scores are
reproducible *estimates*, not authoritative judgments. It will be wrong in
places; corrections are tracked in the migration history.

## 5. Personal data & fairness
Records describe public figures and organizations in their public political
capacity, sourced from public statements and records. Tayyar scores the
**positions a text or actor takes**, not the worth of the person. Requests for
correction of a factual error are welcome via /contact.

## 6. Citation & versioning
Cite a specific **release version** (e.g. `v1.0`) and its DOI — never
"latest." Each release is a frozen snapshot (CSV + JSON exports, a manifest of
row counts, and SHA-256 checksums), downloadable from
<https://tarekgara.com/tayyar/dataset> and archived on Zenodo with a
permanent DOI. BibTeX and APA forms are on the dataset page.
